On Aug. 12, 1985, Japan Airlines Flight 123 suffered mechanical failures after departing Tokyo. It struggled for 32 minutes to stay aloft but finally crashed into Mount Takamagahara, killing 520 people.
Among the debris was found the company diary of 52-year-old shipping manager Hirotsugu Kawaguchi. Apparently he had spent the fateful half hour composing a seven-page letter...

Wow. After years of watching Aliens, I just now noticed the sound at the very end of the credits, probably because I have headphones on and I was working on something else while the movie was ending. Sounds like a facehugger skittering off. Nice and creepy.

The iPad raises the issue of how I want to keep track and access all of my data—or at least the most important stuff—across multiple platforms. Ideally, I could do this without a cable and even remotely. I want it to be automatic seamless for certain file times, like backups with TimeMachine. And I don’t want to trust my data to the cloud.
